You know how in cartoons, characters (especially villains) obsessively chase a goal they never reach? That wascally wabbit is hunted perpetually by Elmer Fudd. The road runner is always running circles around that durn fool of a Coyote. Pinky and the Brain will keep trying to take over the world until there's no world left to rule over.
What would happen if they actually accomplished their goal?
Imagine Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam on trial. Or in jail.
What would the Brain do once he was in charge?
Or what if Yogi stopped hunting pic-uh-nic baskets, went back to being a bear and mauled the ranger?
I dunno. Maybe put somebody else from fiction, fairy tales or mythology in a situation where they have to deal with the consequences of their actions. The Big Bad Wolf being hunted after eating Little Red and Grandma. Child Protective Services checking in on Zeus.
Also, take a look at Don't Look Now over at the Writer's Almanac.
